About IDME

What does IDME mean?

IDME is a short for Infant Development Movement Education and is a certified training coming from the school of Body-Mind Centering®. The IDME education contains major aspects like: Senses & Perception, Basic Neurocellular Patterns, Primitive Reflexes/Righting Reactions/ Equilibrium Responses, Ontogenetic Development and Embryology. The focus is the first year of life, from birth up to 12 months, or a bit more depending on the case.

Infant Developmental Movement Education is a way of being—of slowing down to witness the quiet intelligence unfolding in a baby’s body.

What IDME means to us:

Infant Developmental Movement Education (IDME) is a gentle and attentive way of being with babies and their families. It invites us to slow down, to observe, and to meet our children where they are—with curiosity, care, and respect for their unique unfolding.

Rather than focusing on milestones or doing things “right,” IDME encourages us to tune into what is already present in the baby—what they’re exploring, expressing, and reaching for. Through non-judgmental observation and playful, responsive interaction and facilitation, we support the baby’s natural movement development, from the birth through to walking.

At the heart of IDME is presence. We listen—to subtle shifts in tone, movement, breath, attention. We create space for the baby’s curiosity and agency to lead, rather than placing them into stages they’re not yet ready for. We recognize that every movement is a step in their journey to relate to the world—from lying down to crawling to walking.

Sometimes, a baby’s development might be influenced by inner or outer challenges. In those moments, we gently return to earlier patterns and build from there with care and support.

Why is this work important both for babies and parents?

This approach is grounded in an understanding of how human movement develops. This self-awareness allows us to somatically experience key developmental processes—like reflex integration, embryology development, and different body systems development (organs, nervous system, skeletal system,..) —giving us a fuller understanding of their importance. We’ve all been babies once, and our bodies hold the memory. As IDME practitioners, we guide the caregivers and parents to experience these patterns in themselves. With that experience they gain deeper insight to better support their babies.

IDME supports parents and caregivers. In a world where time feels short and expectations are high, it offers a space to connect—both with your baby and with yourself. Through shared exploration, you gain a deeper understanding of your child’s development and your own embodied experience. It’s not about fixing or correcting, but about being present, learning together, and building trust.

No movement stands alone; each one weaves into the next.

This work sees the baby as part of a larger whole—the family system, the environment, the wider world. When we support a baby with awareness and compassion, we are also supporting ourselves, each other, and the future we’re all growing into—one small, meaningful movement at a time.

We revisit early patterns and reflexes,
the seeds of balance
and flow, not just to understand the baby more deeply,
but to remember something within ourselves.

Working in groups:

Courses and group settings can be especially nourishing—not only for babies to explore movement in a spacious, guided environment, but for parents to take a breath, ask questions, and feel held in community.

Working 1 to 1 as in home visits :

Whether your baby is just beginning to explore rolling, reaching, or crawling - or you're navigating specific questions or concerns - we meet you exactly where you are. You’ll learn how to observe your baby’s cues, respond with confidence, and support their physical, emotional, and cognitive growth through touch, play, and presence.

About Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®)

Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) is a somatic approach that explores how movement, body systems, and consciousness interrelate through direct experience. Developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, BMC® invites a deep, embodied understanding of anatomy, physiology, and early development. Through touch, movement, breath, voice, and mindful awareness, it offers tools to sense and integrate the body from within.

At the heart of this work is a personal journey—one where learning emerges through self-inquiry and physical exploration. Each body system becomes a gateway to movement, perception, and expression, supporting transformation through subtle shifts and deep listening.
